Summer (Pre) College For High School Students

Summer College Engineering & Computer Science program combines a college-level introduction to engineering with study in related subjects.  You'll explore the roles of creativity and problem-solving in the profession, as well as learn the basic tools used in engineering, including computer-assisted drafting, spread sheets, programming, estimating, and systems analysis.

On-campus visits to teaching and research laboratories and off-campus field trips supplement lectures and hands-on projects and experiments.

The concluding design project incorporates elements from all disciplines, emphasizes integration of new technologies, and underscores the importance of teamwork, deadlines, and predictable results.

You'll learn how your interests and aptitudes in science, math, and technology relate to study and careers in engineering.

A final exhibition of students’ work is held in the Schine Student Center on campus. Students from all programs, family, friends and the community at large will be able to see the engineering projects produced by Summer College students.

What's the Deal...

  • discover what it means to be an engineer
  • learn how your special aptitudes and interests fit into the profession
  • roll up your sleeves to connect theory and practice with hands-on experience
  • visit sites-including a regional wind farm-where you'll see engineering at work

Typical Day...

Mornings you will enroll in selected courses to support your study of engineering. You may decide that a mathematics or computer course is the perfect complement to ECS 125. Or you might choose to study writing to boost your skills in critical thinking and communication.
