Summer (Pre) College For High School Students

If you are drawn to fabric, color, apparel or design, this might be the perfect summer program for you. No prior knowledge of design or garment construction is needed for this course.

Woman drawing dress on lighted tableSummer College Fashion Design program students receive step-by-step detailed instruction as part of their studies, and work produced during the program is suitable for inclusion in a college application portfolio.

The fashion industry and its related businesses constitute some of the most fascinating reflections of our culture.  

You’ll experience being a full-time University fashion design student, with all of the excitement and challenge of hands-on instruction, professional equipment, and inspiration and guidance from University faculty.

In Introduction to the World of Fashion, you’ll step into the fashion universe by learning fashion drawing and studying current fashion periodicals.  

Accessory Design will provide a chance for hands-on study.  You’ll design and create a line of accessories similar to those offered by most fashion houses.  

In Introduction to Fashion Knits, you will learn to use electronic knitting machines and experiment with color and pattern as you design and construct a series of knit design samples and design the garments using these fabrics.  These will be a series of design boards with both your samples and your fashion drawings. 

Group of people looking at textileIntroduction to Industry Garment Construction guides you to create a fashion garment similar to those produced by college freshmen in the Fashion Design major. 

A week in our computer laboratory  will give you a good introduction to this technology and will provide you with state-of-the-art samples for your portfolio 

What's the deal...

  • the six-week session, which earns six college credits, is divided into six modules

  • the program culminates in an exhibition located on the Syracuse campus, the exhibition, showcasing work from all the course modules, is an exciting celebration of student accomplishment

Typical Day...  

9AM to Noon, 1PM to 4:30PM In addition to busy days in the studio, you will have lectures that provide you with a  new and fascinating view of 20th-century design in the context of fashion history and culture.
