A
big part of what makes Summer College such a great "real-life"
experience is the opportunity to live in a regular undergrad
residence hall with many other high school students
from a variety of backgrounds. The on-campus hall is
coeducational, with males and females on separate floors
or wings. In most cases, rooms are double occupancy.
Roommates are typically assigned. (If you have a roommate
preference, both of you should make that request before
you arrive on campus.) Dining facilities are in the
same residence hall or in a nearby dining center.
Residential
Staff
The live-in residence staff helps Summer College students adjust quickly and comfortably to the college environment at Syracuse. The staff includes three Living/Learning Coordinators, and 10 or more Resident Mentors. The staff is comprised of mature graduate and undergraduate students who tutor, plan, and supervise activities. They help residents plan sporting and social events, form a student government, and create a memory book.
Commuter
Option
Students
who live in the region have the option of attending
Summer College while residing at home with their families.
Commuters are encouraged to participate in Summer College
activities and to study and socialize in the residence
hall lounges. Mailboxes for commuter students are set
up in the Summer College office.
Activities
Summer College students have access to Syracuse University
recreational facilities, including sports fields and
courts, gyms with workout equipment, game rooms, a pool,
and an ice skating rink. Social activities include movie
nights, roller and ice skating, dances, talent shows,
picnics, pool parties, and trips to amusement parks,
state parks, beaches, museums, and concerts. And if
you're like many college students, you'll find that
just hanging with friends is one of the best activities
of all.
