2-week studio art ProgramS

Build Your Portfolio!
• Experimental Art Processes, July 6-17, 2009
• Figure Drawing, July 20-31, 2009
• Painting, August 3-14, 2009

The Studio Art programs are specifically designed to inspire and challenge students to develop artistic skills under the guidance of university instructors and professional artists.

Faculty from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) will instruct students in Experimental Art Processes, Painting and Figure Drawing. Students will also work alongside peers of like mind and talent, working hands-on with art tools and materials. They will expand their ability to experience and state their world in visual terms.

As part of the Studio Art experience, instructors will work with students on portfolio preparation, helping to select works that best display student ability and interest when applying for college. In addition, students will have an information session with a recruitment officer from CVPA. At least one field trip will also be built into each two-week session.

Students will also be provided the opportunity to work in other SU art departments during selected afternoon sessions.  These workshops will be facilitated by SU faculty and instructors from various departments in CVPA and provide students with technical demonstrations and hands-on instruction.  A list of possible workshops is provided below.

Experimental Art is a drawing-based approach to conceptual thinking. Mixed and traditional drawing-based media are used to analyze problems of space, movement, and concept development. The emphasis is less on observational reportage and more on the dynamics of problem solving.

Students in Studio Art programs move in on the Sunday before classes begin and are permitted to stay until the Saturday following the end of classes. Apply to one, two, or all three programs and experience Studio Arts at the college level.
