Program Overview

New for 2020! Information Reporting & Presentation: Engage, Persuade, and Succeed will teach students how to successful communicate in college and professionally through influential engagement, persuasive presentation, and personal branding. Students will learn how to communicate confidently, effectively, and persuasively online, in person, and in writing in college and in the workplace. They will also learn to be successful in pitching ideas, applying and interviewing for jobs, expanding their network, and improving their professional skills.

This course includes how to give a personal pitch; create a compelling LinkedIn profile and resume; interview online and in person; research companies and organizations; prepare for an internship; make persuasive presentations like a TED Talk; and make well-designed slide decks, compelling charts, diagrams, and infographics for modern professional presentations.

This Summer College course counts for three credits as IST344: Information Reporting and Presentation.

Program Requirements

Student Expectations

This is an academically rigorous, college-level program. Students are expected to complete nightly homework assignments and actively participate in group projects. Students are expected to attend all classes every day, arrive on time, and meet all academic obligations. Free time will vary as each program is unique, as is the subsequent workload.

This class typically runs 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday – Friday.

End Event

There will be a TED Talk style presentation by each student on the final Friday of the program.

Final Academic Obligation

Students are permitted to leave on Friday, August 7, 2020 after 4:30pm upon the completion of their final academic obligation. If students have any questions regarding their final academic obligation, we encourage them to reach out to their instructor. Faculty Bio

Professor Bruce Kingma

Engage, Persuade, and Succeed is taught by Professor Kingma from the Whitman School of Management and the School of Information Studies.  Professor Kingma is the former Provost for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Syracuse University.  Provost Kingma developed the award-winning programs in entrepreneurship, innovation, and community engagement across the Syracuse University campus and Central New York.
